How To Publish Your Writing
I write to entertain the world one page at a time.
The next hardest thing in an author’s life beside writers block, getting the work published.
There is several different ways to do this it, all depends on you and what route you’re willing to take.
The printing off the manuscript and sticking it in an envelope, sending it off to the big name publishers is a way.
Make sure you have a good query letter and synopsis. Do your research on what the publishers you’re sending to submission guide lines are.
If you stick to this way be ready for tones of rejection letters. The big name company’s get so many submissions they take the first four or five and reject the rest. You could be the next Stephen King, Ann Rice, and Nora Roberts if you’re not in the top five on the pile rejection.
Another way to get in the door is an agent. Again you must do your home work see what the agents are looking to represent like horror, mystery, or science fiction.
The agent will draw up a contract just like the publisher reflecting his percent, that can be anywhere from ten, fifteen, even twenty percent. But if the agent is good he should be able to get you in the door of a publishing agent that will sign you a contract with an advance attached.
Beware finding an agent can be as hard as finding a publisher. Again a lot of research involved.
Self-publishing is another way, that is where you pay a company to put it in book form and print it every time a order is placed. So basically you send your manuscript in a word document through e-mail they will draw up a contract and go over their different packages they have.
With self-publishing you have to do the editing, some offer it at additional coast. You have to do all illustrations including cover. Some offer marketing but that is also on you at your expense. There is one company that does offer free publishing and cover design, but they don’t market.
Last but not least there is internet publishing several internet sites offer you free publishing like lulu.com you use their templates and there page layout and then add your book to the online store. You can even choose the price, the nice thing it is offered also as a PDA download. You will have to do your own marketing.
This brings me to marketing, of cores there is the internet. Lots of sites that offer free classifieds that you can post on. Building your own web site opens up a great way to advertize, you can get listed in search engines put the URL on business cards and flyer.
If you can afford it running an ad in the news paper is good. But we all know the best advertizing is radio or TV. To ways to approach media in person physically going in the news station or radio station and introducing your self. Or like the publisher write a quarry letter and a synopsis. Make the letter about you maybe list other books if you have more coming out. Send a copy of the book if you have extras.
My favorite is word of mouth I either leave my web site info or an idea about my books in everyone’s head I meet. I even put the title and web site on my bills someone has to open them.
For whichever way you choose just do the researches get all the info you can and then decide.
